On the 18th of June, the first ever Open Web Sandbox online party was held by the community moderators on the Sandbox discord channel, as a part of the series of activities tied to the relaunch of the OWS Guild. Well, how was it?
The main goal of this event was to kick off the beginning of the new Guilded Age within the NEARverse and the OWS becoming home for all NEARians and Sanboxers. Moreover, we wanted to create and highlight the networking opportunities for all members of this open-source community and let’s be honest: this goal was achieved.
With approximately 70 attendees, every one of which had a chance to pitch their own project built within the NEAR ecosystem, around 10 projects got the place in the spotlight. Among them, Gene, who presented Decentraland, Chloe, who talked about Marma J and Sachamat pitched the idea of creating a Legal Guild within the NEAR community. Also, guilds like the Swine Guild and the Hispano Guild were represented by their core team members.
The party was also joined by the NEAR core team members such as the full stack developer Matt Lockyer and the community wizard Shreyas. Shreyas has shared possible opportunities within the NEAR community:
“We are excited to be a part of this onboarding of the Sandbox and there is a lot of stuff going on within the community at the moment, including DAO’s and platforms for the community systems. If you are interested in contributing to any of these, do let someone from the community know. You can find us on the forum, we are pretty active there, we are about 8 people in the team and we are still hiring and growing”.
Besides, we were honoured with the presence of multiple NEAR community members such as Grace, James, Ross, Joep and of course the glorious founding father of the Open Web Sandbox – Ozymandius. Many thanks to the charming new Sandbox co-lead Rebecca (@mecsbecs) who helped to organize the party and ensured everything ran smoothly during the event.
This digital party could not be complete without digital giveaways: Doctor NEAR NFT cards created by one of the OWS moderators Samtoshi_F_Baby. We handed out these amazing tokens for free to all guests of this unique get-together as proof of “partYcipation” through Collab.land.
This being said, we would like to thank everyone who made it to the party and helped create this awesome sphere that we all love Sandbox for. Today we are launching the Silicon Craftsmen Guild: a community-led working group supported and funded by the NEAR Foundation, whose sole focus is to develop and advance the Web 3.0 Product Design and User Experience (UX) standards. Great builders know that an excellent product is both an Art and a Science. Silicon Craftsmen founding team is made up of early crypto adopters – OGs with experience with a wide range of protocols, Product Designers – obsessed about the user and building magical experiences, and Builders – creative problem solvers who hustle to make things happen. Now we are uniting under one banner, joining forces under one guild to leverage each others’ knowledge and experience, and, most importantly recruit others like us to help us design the dApps that will onboard the next million users to de decentralised Web 3.0.
The Decoupling
The Flippening is exciting, but have you ever heard of The Decoupling? The Flippening is the term used to describe the moment when the market cap of Ethereum ‘flips’ (overtakes, becomes larger than) the market cap of Bitcoin. While a fair chunk of the focus is merely given to price action and extrapolating trends, there are increasingly accepted theories around Ethereum becoming more valuable as Ether (ETH) has real use. But, what about the users?
Up until now, developers have had technical constraints at a systems level that largely shaped the User Experience of their products. The sub-par experience has not been an impediment for early growth as the users, builders and investors are often the same people, meaning that they are willing to endure slow and expensive processes full of friction to validate their ideas.
We define ‘The Decoupling’ as the moment when Users, Builders and Investors start to diverge, entering into cycles of adoption and growth that resemble mainstream tech. For this new stage, good UX will be vital.

We have decided to focus all our time and energy advocating for better products and user experiences on the NEAR Protocol blockchain as we believe that Near has solved most of the technical hurdles that were limiting growth while focusing on ease of use. The result is an extremely fast, cheap, secure and composable network that we believe will be the breeding ground for a Cambrian explosion of new decentralised applications.
Product Demos & Tutorials
We were all noobies once. Frightened by some of the more knowledgeable crypto guys and confused about how to get involved. We are carefully thinking through the Customer Journey of new users and creating a wide range of content to help onboard them, enabling seamless experiences across the Near ecosystem. As a community we have spent countless hours onboarding people individually, now we are scaling to ensure the information, tips and insights of the most knowledgeable members of our community is available to anyone, anytime.
Community of Designers and Developers
We want to narrow the gap that exists now between the traditional Product and Design world and the Blockchain Developers ecosystem. We are working towards:
– Creating onboarding experiences for Product Design, UX/UI and creatives, in general, to enter the Blockchain space through Introductory Workshops, networking with existing designers within crypto, collaboration with real projects, among others.
– Content to share the best practices in Product Design for Builders. We want to facilitate the up-skilling of existing teams and facilitate the constant review and improvement of products.
– Creation of content that highlights the key features and developments of the Near blockchain to help attract and onboard new developers.

We are pleased to announce the launch of Swine Guild, NEAR’s very own meme consortium. To most people, a meme is nothing more than a humorous image, video, or piece of text that is copied and spread rapidly by internet users. We, the founding farmers of Swine Guild, see no issue with this definition, but we feel the need to go deeper. Since most unironic truth-telling is instantly ridiculed and meme-ified on the internet anyway, Swine Guild elects to operate under a more inclusive definition of a meme: an element of culture passed from one mind to another. We’re here to elevate the culture and internet presence of NEAR to a whole new level, and we’re gonna do it with memes.
Swine Guild will satisfy all the NEAR Ecosystem’s meme needs- we’re talking high quality nuggets of comedic gold for education, online marketing, and just plain shitposting.
Swine Guild’s key activities:
1. Providing a regular stream of high quality meme content to any and all facets of the NEAR community
2. Collaborating with other guilds, projects, and the NEAR Team to provide quick and effective meme-based marketing
3. Disseminating memes through a synced network of accounts on Twitter, Telegram, Discord, and Reddit to reach maximum NEAR saturation on these platforms
Think of Swine Guild as a meme farm, nay, meme sty. Starting now, projects in the NEAR ecosystem can request meme services through the Swine Guild site for hype content around product launches, partnership announcements, and development updates. Guilds and DAOs can request that their launch, growth, and community efforts be meme-ified and shared. Event hosts can reach out to Swine Guild and order up some memes to promote their events and reach more audiences. In addition to these herculean labors of love that demonstrate how deeply hoggish we are on NEAR, we will be generating a constant flow of general NEAR content explaining the key features of NEAR to lay audience, as well as FUD memes that poke fun at competitors and make NEAR look like the prize-winning pig that she is.

Swine in the Sandbox
Swine Guild will operate our very own Discord server in the Open Web Sandbox where the masses can come bool with us, ask questions, and shit post. This channel will also host information on our monthly meme contests and facilitate content sharing and dissemination.
